Well, we won’t be updating for about 2 weeks. Sunday morning we drive 4 and a half hours to Winnipeg, fly to Vancouver, fly to Prince George, and drive to Vanderhoof. That’ll be a long day. But worth it, ‘cause come the next dawn we are off for our Dease River trip with Patty and Richard and Jill and Travis… and all of their kids!! 2 weeks of paddling, relaxing, exploring and great fishing. Hmmmm. Don’t get any better than that!

The final installment of the Lake Life series… This is just us enjoying Lake of the Woods (powered by Gerry’s crazy new 150 Suzuki fourstroke). I love how it kinda looks like those old 8mm films from the 70’s.

Well, this isn’t really Lake Life. Mich’s family lives on the Winnipeg River. So this is River Life! Anyway, Jamie and I and Jamie’s buddy Rupert had a great afternoon on the water. The fishing remains great! Earlier you saw Ryan’s technique in filletting… now witness the cutting prowess of my brother-in-law.

Here’s Mich and her dad Rick in a game of horseshoes. Mich is awesome…. or is she? There is no sound on this vid, but you can just about hear the “Aw Man…” at the end.

Kenora is famous for the Lake of the Woods. What a place. We love coming here to visit with Mich’s family and friends. This is a pic taken the other day at Jess Haines’ family cabin (or in Kenora-speak, their “camp”). In the middle is Jess’s brother’s awesome dog Sage. Dave and Joanne Haines were wonderful in hosting us at their cabin for the night. Sadly we missed Jeanna, but we were thinking and talking about her!

A few days later we got a call from Jess’s brother Ryan. He had the day off from guiding fishing and wanted to know if we wanted to spend it on the lake with him and Amy. Is a frog’s ass watertight? We fished for a while - he knows all the good spots! - and then booted over to the camp to BBQ the fruits of our labors. Ryan did his fishing guide thing with the fish! Check it out… it was a lot of walleye, and zip zip, he filletted them quick!

Ha. Last year, as some of you have heard already, we totally forgot our aniversary! Shocking! We were in Tibet and didn’t actually realize we’d missed it until almost a week later. We’d met some hikers during our wonderful trek outside of Lhasa. One of them asked how long we’d been married. I suddenly realized what day it was and asked Mich if she knew. We kinda looked at each other. We thought back and figured out that on the actual date we spent the day in Lhasa visiting the Jokhang and Potala Palace (home of the Dali Lhama).

Pretty good way to spend our special day (even if we didn’t realize it at the time). I guess we also realized that the date of your aniversary really is just symbolic and spending every day together like you mean it is more important. That being said… Happy Aniversary Michelle!

One of my favorite things to do is go paddling with Michelle. She’s awesome. Here she is last weekend on Clearwater Lake. She’s keeping things pretty straight considering I’m not paddling at all so I could take this vid.

Well, the weather was great! Hot! And the beer cold (well mostly cold, especially thanks to Simon’s natural riverside cooler system). Was great to camp and hike and canoe and fish and eat etc. with Simon and Kathleen. Wells Gray park is unbelievable and has moved to the top of our radar - we’ll be back to explore this park further.
