Well, Christmas is almost here! Or is it? Every year Mich and I get into this little, um, discussion about eggnog. She loves it, and we end up with lots in our fridge. The question is about timing though. Today we bought our first carton of the “season”. Way too early if you ask me! The kiddies haven’t even come trick or treating yet for crying out loud! For me, eggnog is a Christmas thing; always has been. So that said, I think, just like Christmas ads and decorations and such, it should wait until at least December 1. I’m rather uncomfortable about November purchases. And now, we are still in October! Anyway, you now know where we stand… what do you think? Let the voting begin!
This summer we were happy to host Blake and Sandy here in Kamloops for a few days. Was great to see them and catch up with them and their children Hailey and Brendan. Anyway, we don’t usually make honoured guests cook when they visit, but we made an exception this time! Sandy was a dynamo in the kitchen, whipping up a feast that featured all our favorites from our days in China. It was absolutely stunning. An added bonus was that she and Michelle made so much Jiaozi filling that we had to keep making Jiaozi to put in the freezer. Mmmmmm, hao chr! So here’s to you Sandy!
**UPDATE** This post made us hungry for jaozi so we had too cook up some of our frozen stash! Yum!
Well we are so excited to congratulate my sister Michelle and my brother in-law Kevin on the birth yesterday of their first child Ella Samantha! By all reports (see pics below), she is a super cute little bundle of joy. Welcome to the world Ella! Woo Hoo!!

The Circle of Life: Or What We Did Before Going Out For Sushi The Other Night
Well this year is the big one of the four year cycle. Between 4 and 7 million sockeye salmon are swimming up from the ocean to expire in the Adams River. But not before getting some important stuff done! Most have arrived now, many are finished already. So Mich and I spent a great evening strolling along the river and marvelling at salmon. Good times!
And yes, we did stop for sushi on the way home.
Here at The Long Road, we aim to please. A reader has come up with a request in the comments on our last post (see below). Actually, we’ve never had this many comments so we are happy and eager to comply. Anyway, after Jacqui and Glenn claimed to be super elegant, ultra-attractive, movie star types…
We’re impressed, but we are still the better looking couple.

…Darren asked to see their mugs.
I think you should now post pics of Glen and Jacqui (sorry don’t know ya) and we can then compare.

So without further adieu, click here to check them out!
Well, because of a few interesting coincidences, Michelle and I did a photoshoot last June. The gig was for new promo/tourism shots of the Loops. Well, Tourism Kamloops has unveiled their new website with Mich and I headlining the Mountain Bike page. Photographer Alan Fortune took the shot. Please visit his site. Could the Sears Catalogue be far off…?
So, click on the above picture to see us in action, well sort of…
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
I love that we are a week into October and I’m still picking beautiful, sweet raspberries in the back yard. ‘Course that means I’m still mowing the lawn too!
Now it ain’t no secret that I’m a fan of Matthew Good. Over the years, in addition to being a great and innovative musician, he has become an excellent and more and more political blogger. He seems to have come up with something that I think some of you will appreciate. The guy really is an artist. There is no explaination given for these little podcast vignettes, but that only makes them more interesting. Click on the links below. Then just click on the play button.
Well, last weekend saw us reconnecting with Mich’s old friend Tanja and her husband Brendan in Kelowna. The winefestival is on so we checked out several wineries. Kinda cool - we’d never done wine tasting before. I mean, we’ve “tasted” lots of wine but… Here we are at Hillside Winery in Naramata looking happy about some purchases!
Viidoo TVU Player - Props to Potter!

Thanks goes out to one G. Potter. Yes, he is now “The Man”, quite literally since he has donned the tie and collar up there in Houston, BC, but he is also da man now because he got me on to the new TVU player.. We’ve decided not to blow our money on cable or sat TV. Mostly this is great. However, we do miss out on some stuff like US Open tennis, the World Series etc. So now we can see a few of these things… for free. Cool. You guys out in China should be all over this thing. Click here to get on it! You will need a decent high-speed connection.
