Well, you remember the Egg Nog controversy? Well, it’s December 21. We are WELL into the green zone for the nog. And yes we are indulging! Trev and Jen our friends from China (via Prince George and Vernon) are here and in the Christmas spirit! You guys who know Trev know his history with Egg Nog!! (for those who don’t, he’s very down with the nog). So anyway, no matter how you voted, it’s green light for the nog! Here is proof: Check out the nog ’stashes!

There was a commercial on tonight from the City of Kamloops. It basically was from the waste removal department who has produced a bunch of spots to promote recycling and water conservation etc. This one focussed on Christmas and making sure you recycled all of your Christmas wrap and such. It ended with a reminder that you can only have THREE extra bags of trash the first garbage day after Christmas. That’s right, let’s be green about the whole thing, but if you can’t, it’s cool, ‘cause we’ll pick up 300% MORE trash than normal for you.

Yeesh. So what can we do? OK, I’m gonna be lazy about this and link you on over to Cafe Catharsis for some great thoughts on making Christmas green. Thanks Carole!

Well, to follow up on my previous post about our climate crisis, I would like to present a series of suggestions that we can all do to help our situation. Like I said before, they are all pretty small, but all pretty necessary. Certainly, none of them are new or mind-blowing. Instead they are all common sense.

So what can you do?

1. Use Less Hot Water

It takes a lot of energy to make water. You can save up to 850 lbs of CO2 emissions a year simply by installing flow restrictors and washing clothes in cold or warm water rather than hot. And you shower lovers? Consider the 5 minute shower challenge!

As always, go to Climate Crisis, the website.

And check out Carole’s thoughts on the topic (Dec 9th post).

Well the knees are creaking, and the backs are aching, and the quads are burning, but… ski season has begun! And how. At times yesterday we were in knee deep fluffy pow at Sun Peaks. To get a face shot on the first day rules, let me tell you.

Well, It’s December and all bets are off! Do it people! Drink Egg nog! Put up your Christmas lights! And, alas, as always, I just can’t leave well enough alone…

Last night we were out for dinner with some friends and the issue of the acceptable date to erect your Christmas tree came up. So I’m turning to you dear readers of The Long Road; What do you think? Please comment. Oh, and notice, I’m trying to allow you to be unbiased in your feedback in that I’m not telling you what my thoughts are. Comment away…
