One of the great things about this time of the year is rhubarb. Why you ask? Well it’s growing like weeds in the garden for one. Second, you couple it with strawberries and you’ve got yourself a great pie! This is a new recipe for us as we’ve never made this variety of pie before, and we tried a new recipe from The New Best Recipe for the crust. It worked out well to say the least!
OK, this is an update on my stump battle. It’s over. I won. I told you I would.

The cool thing is that I made it happen with human power only! That’s right - and axe, shovels, saws, a come-along, a wrecking bar and a whole lot of sweat!
The pics don’t really show it, but the real complication of the whole thing is that the stump was up against the concrete retaining wall - actually, it was jammed into the corner. I’m glad I got it out when I did as I was just about ready to rustle up some dynamite and that could have opened a whole new can of worms!
I spent MUCH of my day today doing great battle with the stump in our yard. The stump is still there. I will be back stump, oh yes, I will be back.
I love a good mystery, especially one that science hasn’t been able to solve in 50 years or so.
Every once in a while I like to change up the look of the site. The new header pic was taken on our first night on Flores Island in Indonesia. After flying into Labuhanbajo with Al and Margaret, we found a guest house, The Golo Hilltop Hotel, and walked down the coastline to a watch the sun go down. In this aerial shot from Google you can see the town at the bottom and the pier that is pictured in the new header at the top right. Zoom out to see the surrounding area.
Here are a few shots from our great long weekend with Christian, Crystal and Tod at Wells Gray Park. The weather was unusually great for a May long weekend. We paddled, hiked and ate well!
Today in the mail we received the June edition of Eating Well Magazine. It would seem that someone bought Mich a subscription. Wow. It is a mystery for now, though hopefully we will find out who to thank soon… Anyway, as it turned out we needed a suggestion for dinner tonight. New recipe! Broccoli and Cheese Soufflé. Mmmmmm. It was good, and our first soufflé ever! Thanks mystery person!
