OK, this is an update on my stump battle. It’s over. I won. I told you I would.
Doug believed in me (see previous post)
The cool thing is that I made it happen with human power only! That’s right - and axe, shovels, saws, a come-along, a wrecking bar and a whole lot of sweat!
The pics don’t really show it, but the real complication of the whole thing is that the stump was up against the concrete retaining wall - actually, it was jammed into the corner. I’m glad I got it out when I did as I was just about ready to rustle up some dynamite and that could have opened a whole new can of worms!
Man will always win out over nature! Atta boy for keeping that dream alive!!

Thanks for your enthusiasm Craig! It’s funny ‘cause lot of the short stories I teach these days seem to suggest the opposite of your comment - that is that nature is WAY more powerful that we give it credit and that really, nature basically just tolerates us. I think my victory over that damned stump, though quite satisfying, is rather small in the grand scheme of things, especially considering recent events in Burma and China.

Just resist the Chinese half of you that is screaming to put up a fake concrete tree in the place where the real one once stood.
