**Udated Feb.21 ** Thanks for the comments people and your critical eyes! I’m enjoying hearing what people’s thoughts are - they are diverse.
It’s pretty easy to find a good picture at Angkor Wat, Cambodia. That said, this one is one of my favorite shots that I’ve ever taken. Now for fun, I also gave it the B&W treatment (cause I wanted to learn the technique). Anyway, I’d love it if you’d tell me via comments which you prefer.

The B&W is more forceful and dramatic because of the startling colour. If not having seen the colour version, one would simply assume that the building was gray stone. Dad

Yeah, Dad, I like how the monk is very punchy in the B&W shot. Not sure that splash of color is as effective in the original.

Another great shot kev! I’ve noticed you’ve cropped the B&W a slight bit too, however, I do agree that the intensity is very clear in the B&W, making the monk look very close to the edge, and there is movement there. The original is still, with subtle contrast. I think if it weren’t for the consistent orange (if he was dressed in blue or if the sky was crystal clear) there would be more depth. However, having rambled on I do think both have their own unique beauty. Well done!

I’m going against the grain here - I like the original much better. This is not to say the B&W is bad, but I think the original is more powerful. The slight contrast of colors feels stronger to me rather than the forced one with the B&W. Either way, they are both beauty but that is my two bits.

Hey Kev, nice shot. I like the original simply because anytime I see a black and white shot with one element in colour it reminds me of those cheesy romantic posters with the red rose. Of course I think you had one of those in our room at UBC so I can see why you are drawn to that look.

Ah, Rob, I miss that rose poster don’t you?
